It is not just once that we have heard the phrase, "No man is an island." This phrase is a quotation by John Donne and simply means that people cannot live alone and totally separated from other humans.
The same applies to card-making. At first, one finds it a personal hobby and works alone, silently putting papers together, cutting patterns, tying ribbons and carefully placing cute embellishments.
Aside from the possibility of doing crafts with your kids, friends or other members of the family, eventually, one will also meet people during visits to the local store while buying paper supplies and other tools. Inevitably, relationships will be developed that could lead to more socializing. The internet is also a rich venue for meeting new people with the same interest.
Others also find card making more enjoyable to do if there are others who do the same thing with them at the same time. This is when a card making group can be formally organized.
A card-making club is a group of people who makes different cards for hobby or business. The group usually meets at regular schedules wherein they can either make cards during the sessions, exchange ideas for their projects, buy, sell or exchange tools and materials with each other. One member even said that they do more socializing than card making!
Once a person decides to turn into a craft business what used to be just a hobby, more social opportunities will arise and will be needed to get a good profit. This is where craft shows come into the picture. A card-making enthusiast> can join local craft shows to further open up the social world and expose them to others more who share the same passion.
This alternative source of income has been very rewarding for most people. The rewards have been so good and fulfilling that they find themselves asking why they have not done so all this time. Many realize that making greeting cards requires just a small capital and the basic materials needed are already present at home, such as scissors, paste, glue, cutter and color pencils. Very cost-efficient, indeed!
It has also become popular because it caters to almost all people. People celebrate birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, baby and bridal showers, graduation and several other occasions. And in all of these celebrations, greetings and special messages are almost always written on handpicked cards. Whether a card is given all by itself or tucked in a bouquet of lovely flowers, it always finds its way into the hands of well wishers.
