Planning a Long Distance Wedding

Planning a Long Distance Wedding

Planning a wedding is always a big job, and it is even more challenging when you are planning a long distance wedding. Whether you are getting away to a tropical beach, getting married in the town where you grew up, or some other place that struck your fancy, planning your wedding from far away is different than arranging for one right down the street. A long distance wedding requires that the bride and groom be organized, decisive, and flexible.

Prepare to give up some of the control. To be able to pull off a long distance wedding, you will have to find someone at your wedding destination that you can trust with a lot of the details. This is not so hard when you are having a destination wedding at a resort, because they usually have an event coordinator on site who will manage everything. For other locations, the bride will need a wedding planner, relative, or very trusted friend to do a lot of the legwork for her.

Wedding Shoes

Let's say that you live in California, but are getting married in your hometown in Pennsylvania. You will need a person in your hometown to research venues, caterers, florists, bakers, musicians, and photographers. Usually, they will go and do the preliminary investigating, and narrow it down to the two or three best options. At that point, it is time for the bride to make a trip to Pennsylvania to make the final selections. Be prepared to cram a lot of wedding planning into a short amount of time!

In most cases, the vendors that you hire will consider both the bride and her point person to be contacts. Depending on who the person is and how much you trust her, the long distance bride might end up leaving a lot of the little decisions up to their hometown assistant. For instance, if that person is your mom, you might tell her the general colors and flowers that you like, and let her work with the florist to create the bouquets and centerpieces. Of course, long distance planning is much easier than it used to be, now that everyone has a digital camera and the internet.

One of the biggest decisions to make when arranging your wedding from a distance is what to do about your bridal gown. That is the one thing that simply cannot be delegated (and who would want to?). Usually the bride is best off buying her gown in a salon where she lives or one near her wedding site. If you will be making multiple trips home during the planning process, it can actually be easiest to work with a salon where your wedding will take place. This is because it is difficult to travel with a wedding gown. In addition, if your gown does have to be transported, you will need to have made an appointment to have it pressed once you arrive. Bridal gowns do require multiple fittings, so only buy one at your destination if you can realistically get there for alterations.

Accessories are much easier. You can find beautiful handmade wedding jewelry online, so you don't have the same concerns as with the bridal gown. Also, dainty handmade wedding jewelry is a whole lot easier to transport than an enormous dress! Just be certain to pack it in your carry on luggage if you are flying. The same goes for your tiara and shoes.

There are many factors that go into deciding where to be married. Often emotional ties are more important that convenience. Planning a wedding long distance may not be the easiest way to do it, but it will certainly be worth the extra effort to have the wedding of your dreams.

Wedding Theme Planning - Ethnic Wedding Traditions

Wedding Theme Planning - Ethnic Wedding Traditions

When deciding on a wedding theme, most couples tend to lean toward the more popular ones: beach, western, butterfly, etc. However, by turning your attention toward an ethnic theme wedding you'll find that it's a wonderful way to incorporate your heritage and personalize your wedding day. Your wedding guests will also appreciate experiencing some of your wonderful cultural traditions.

Just as in any traditional wedding theme planning, you need to look at each aspect of your wedding plans and decide how and what ethnic traditions you can include. Here are some ideas to help you along.

Wedding Shoes

Choosing Wedding Colors

In some cases, you can interject certain colors into your color scheme. For example, those with a Scottish background could use the colors of their tartans in their table decorations, wedding flowers and bridal attire. Couples who are planning an Asian wedding would look at including reds and yellows, perhaps.

Wedding Attire

The bride, groom and attendants should all wear culturaly traditional bridal attire for the ceremony. The guests will certainly love this, especially those who don't know much about your culture.

Wedding Favors

Look about your home for ethnic house decorations that you might have to provide you with some inspiration. Items such as artwork could lead to handing out low-cost small framed posters or art work featuring your native country.

Bookmarks or music CD's from your homeland would also make great wedding favors.

Ethnic Wedding Decorations

Choose wedding flowers and arrangements that would be popular for your culture. For example, orchids are widely used in Hawaiian cultures, while lotus blossoms are popular for Chinese weddings. Daisies and zinnias are suitable for a Mexican wedding.

Use decorating accents and props strategically placed through out the reception area that are appropriate to your culture to help bring the "feel" of the theme to your guests. Fringed table runners in deep colors would enhance an Arab or East-Indian theme, while colorfully small-beaded coasters would look lovely on tables for an American Indian wedding (these could also double as favors). Small African masks could be used as decorating accents in a variety of areas for an African-American wedding.

Additional Theme Ideas

It goes without saying that music from your native country is a must. Hire a musician for the ceremony to play a traditional musical instrument. Play some of this type of music during key parts of your reception (however, don't play it throughout the whole night... a small sampling is best in this case).

If there are dances that are special to your culture, hire some dancers to entertain guests during dinner or to start off the reception.

Plan to have a small part of the ceremony done in your native tongue (preferably with a translator for those that don't speak the language so they don't miss anything).

For entertainment, include any interesting or simple games, if appropriate, during the reception.

The Groom's Wedding Planning Duties

The Groom's Wedding Planning Duties

In the past grooms took a backseat when it came to planning a wedding, preferring to let their bride-to-be do the majority of the work. However, times are now changing and more men want to be involved in the planning process. The problem is that most men really don't know how to plan a wedding so they need your guidance.

Here are some responsibilities for the groom:

Wedding Shoes

1. Gather Paperwork

Make it his responsibility to apply for the wedding license, research blood-test requirements, and coordinate passport applications if needed for travel. In addition, add the bride's name to financial accounts, wills, insurance policies, if you have mutually decided this will be in your best interest.

2. Arrange Transportation

Interview Limousine companies or arrange for other transportation to the wedding, and reception hall. Make sure to provide the transportation company with accurate directions and with a time schedule of the days events.

3. Plan the Honeymoon

Once you both decide upon your locale, he should go about booking the trip and securing transportation to and from the airport, which could be provided by the best man.

4. Coordinate Groomsmen Attire

In addition to the grooms attire, set up fittings for tuxedo rentals for the wedding. He should make sure everyone has the necessary accessories (i.e. vest, tie, matching shoes & socks). He should also arrange to have the tuxedos returned to the store the next business day after the wedding.

5. Help the bride set up a budget, write the guest list, and pick out the invitations.

If the groom's parents want to contribute financially to the wedding, he should speak to them privately (without the bride). That way they will not feel any pressure. (Remember, his parents are going to be a very important part of your life so you do not want to alienate them!)

The groom should ask his parents who they would like to invite to the wedding. Again, the groom may want to do this without his bride. Before speaking to the parents, make sure you know exactly how many people they are allowed to invite.

Planning A Country Western Wedding

Planning A Country Western Wedding

Want to break away from the usual wedding? Want a little more country spice added to your life? Cowboy hats and cowboy boots, what better way to celebrate then breaking out some good old fashion country music, and your two step shoes! Forget that traditional wedding with a white dress, and a tuxedo, we are having ourselves a rodeo!

Everyone comes to the wedding dressed down in their favorite pair of jeans, and cowboy hat. Even our bride is dressing in a cowgirl ensemble. Our bride walks down the aisle to some Hank Williams Jr. And for the first dance as a married couple, we watch the couple do a western two step, and the rest of the party joins in. Everyone is laughing and having themselves a good old time. Set it up so that guests can ride horses, children can ride ponies in addition to having a fake bronco bull they can test their luck on. Professionals can be hired to put on a real show for our guests by testing their luck in roping some cattle, or by putting on a horse riding show. Perhaps an auction can even be run to auction off some fun nick knacks. There is no end to where this rodeo can go!

Wedding Shoes

Picnic tables and a barbeque are perfect for our after the wedding celebration. Use stacked hale bales to hold snacks, food and drinks in a buffet line. Rhinestone horse shoe key chains are perfect for our wedding day favors. Forget expensive tableware, grab a beer mug and a plastic plate and dig in! On each table can be small little inexpensive favors that guests can keep. Candles in the shape of apples can be placed on the table. Use cowboy hats on the table as well for centerpieces used to hold flowers, or snacks such as your favorite brand of potato chip. An area can be cleared out where people can dance the night away doing their two step, or line dance. Maybe a DJ or just a good working radio can be set up. Sunflower watering cans can be set up as well for fun and can be filled with candy, mints or nuts for guests. Setting up a small stand that serves candy apples, popcorn, and cotton candy would be a fun idea for guests too making your wedding reception fun for adults and kids too!

You can even go so far as to set up a beer stand with a TV playing whatever sports your guests enjoy most, or maybe some music videos of your favorite country singers. You can take this rodeo wedding which ever way you'd like. Take your guests out of life for a day, and throw them into some country. No one ever said that a wedding had to be a traditional one, so take advantage of that. If country is what you like, then do it! Have fun, go nuts, break out your cowboy hat, and cowboy boots, and get a little bit country!

Wedding Planning Time Line

Wedding planning time line will help you to create a sound schedule for your wedding preparations. Every couple will have their own time line, since every wedding is unique. However, it's really important to have a detailed time line in which you can refer to at every point of your wedding planning.

First of all, your time line should be broken down into segments, for example: 6 months before the wedding, 3 months before, 1 month before, 1 week and 1 day prior to the wedding. The most involved aspects should be scheduled to be done many months in advance, while others aspects can wait.

What exactly are the aspects that need to be scheduled way in advance? It's different for every couple, and each couple should try to brainstorm it on their own. For instance, if you are planning on ordering a custom-made wedding dress and tuxedo, you should start dealing with this matter months before your wedding, since you will need to select the materials, visit the tailor several times for the fittings, and then allow the time for the tailor to make the adjustments.

Same is true for custom-made wedding rings. If you are going to order custom made rings, you will need to allow at least a few months for their creation by the jeweler.

How far in advance should you book your wedding location? Generally, you need to reserve your wedding location as soon as you can, especially if you are planning to have your wedding during the so-called wedding season - April through August. Some locations actually can only be booked 12 months in advance during the "wedding season". However, if you are planning to have a home wedding, you do not need to worry about this aspect at all.

What about wedding invitations, how much in advance should you start dealing with this matter? Wedding invitations are generally sent around eight weeks prior to the wedding day. However, you should remember that you will also need time to choose the invitations, as well as sign them and address them to your guests.

Wedding shoes also need to be dealt with some time in advance. If the bride has a long wedding dress, the looks of the shoes might not be of the utmost importance. The most important thing is that both, the bride and the groom feel comfortable in their shoes. Tight or loose fitting shoes can make anyone feel miserable, especially when you have to wear them for many hours. Thus, you may want to not only purchase the shoes in advance, but also wear them for a few weeks around your home.

Wedding planning time line is crucial for any wedding. The farther in advance you start compiling your wedding planning time line, the greater is the chance that everything will go as it should on your wedding day.

Here is a basic guide for you in planning your wedding of a lifetime:

Get input from others. Asking the idea of other people is a great idea for a bride to be. Getting input means asking other people about their experiences on their wedding so you will have an idea what and where to look for things you need. Your mother might be able to give you input on where to buy the best and most affordable cake or an older brother might be able to introduce you to a very talented wedding singer. This also goes true with seeking help and assistance especially on your wedding day. You don't want to stress up yourself on your special day by solving and looking after every thing. You can get the necessary help by assigning friends, relatives, groomsmen and bridesmaid particular tasks and assignments. You may, for example, ask your bridesmaid to see to it that everybody in the bridal entourage arrives on time.

This includes your wedding gown, jewelries, and shoes and make up. Preparing yourself to look beautiful does not only depend on the things that you will buy for yourself but also on how you will look like, say, in a particular design of a wedding gown. This also includes searching for the best jewelries that you can afford and looking for someone who can assist or help you with your make up on your wedding day.

Remember your friends and loved ones. Weddings are special events and it is also the best time where you can share your joys in life to your loved ones. Make a list of the people you want to come on your wedding day. You also have to consider who you want to be part of your bridal entourage. Give out invitation cards weeks in advance to allow your guests to plan or change their schedules. Remember to prepare wedding gifts for your family, and those who assist you on your wedding particularly the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Tips For Planning a Small Wedding

Planning a small wedding can be somewhat different from planning a larger one, but a nice result of planning a small wedding is lesser costs and confusions on that special day. Before planning a smaller wedding though, you'll need to define specifically what you mean by "small". For some people, a small wedding is just ten or fifteen of their closest friends and family. For others however, a small wedding includes at least 50 people.

For the sake of this article, we'll consider planning this type of wedding to mean planning a wedding which will have 20 people or less. This makes things much easier to plan and pull off without a hitch, plus it can really help you keep your wedding budget low too!

Small Wedding Food Tips: When planning a small wedding of just 20 guests, you don't usually have to worry about having a catered meal. Family members can get together and create a home cooked meal for your wedding reception instead, or you can make arrangements to have the meal at a local favorite restaurant.

If you'd rather have the meal catered anyway, you can still do so of course. Simply find a caterer who specalizes in smaller events, and work with them to plan the details for your own  wedding reception.

Small Wedding Ceremony Tips: When planning a smaller wedding, you have many options for creative ceremonies. You can for instance, simply make arrangements to have your wedding ceremony in a small local chapel you've always adored, or get a permit from your county or city to use a pretty gazebo in your local park.

In fact, when planning your wedding you can actually choose to have the ceremony at your home, a friend's home, or maybe the family home you grew up in. Since there won't be too many people in attendance, it's easy to fit the wedding ceremony in a variety of places that aren't practical for larger ceremonies.

Some people prefer to have their weddings in unusual places too. A couple of four wheel drive enthusiasts for example, might plan a small wedding which involves driving to the top of a mountain and having the ceremony overlooking a beautiful lake or canyon.

Small Wedding Reception Tips: Planning a wedding that is small makes the reception planning much easier and less expensive too. You could for example, simply plan to have your wedding reception at a friend or family member's home. You could have the wedding reception at a local park, or you could simply have everyone gather together at a favorite club for the reception too.

Keep in mind though: Just because you're planning a wedding that is smaller does not mean you have to go super low budget. Small weddings can be "done up" in the very same way larger weddings can. Planning this type of wedding can still involve having gift registries, elegant invitations and thank you notes, formal ceremonies and celebrations, and all the trimmings of food, wine and spirits too.

So if you're planning a smaller wedding yourself, first think about how small that wedding will be. Then decide whether you want the wedding to be unique, creative, or traditional. From that point it's just a matter of setting your budget, then planning your small wedding!
